Replace the computer cover, reconnect your com-puter and peripherals to their power sources, andturn them on.As the system boots, it detects the presence of thenew video memory and automatically changes thesystem configuration information in the SystemSetup program.6. Enter the System Setup program, and confirmthat the amount of video memory displayed in theVIDEO MEMORY category is 2 MB.See Chapter 2, “Using the System Setup Program.”If the video memory total is incorrect, turn off thesystem, remove the computer cover, and reseat thevideo-memory upgrade chips in their sockets.7. Run the Video Test Group in the Dell diagnosticsto test the new video memory.See your Diagnostics and Troubleshooting Guide forinstructions on running the diskette-based diagnosticsand troubleshooting any problems that occur.Replacing the System BatteryA 3.0-volt (V) CR2032 coin-cell battery installed on thesystem board maintains system configuration, date, andtime information in a special section of memory. Theoperating life of the battery can extend up to ten years. The battery may need replacing if an incorrect time ordate is displayed during the boot routine along with amessage such as:Time-of-day not set — please run SETUPprogramorInvalid configuration information —please run SETUP programorStrike the F1 key to continue,F2 to run the setup utilityTo determine whether the battery needs replacing, reenterthe time and date through the System Setup program (notthrough the MS-DOS time and date commands) and exitthe program properly to save the information. SeeChapter 2, “Using the System Setup Program,” forinstructions. Turn off and disconnect your system fromalternating current (AC) power for a few hours; thenreconnect and turn on your system. Enter the SystemSetup program. If the date and time are not correct in theSystem Setup program, replace your battery. You can operate your system without a battery; however, without a battery, the system configuration informationmaintained by the battery is erased if the system is turnedoff or unplugged from AC power. In this case, you mustenter the System Setup program and reset the configura-tion options.pin-1ends93816BK0.BK : 93816c60.frm Page 11 Monday, September 16, 1996 1:21 PM
