NFS Access Denied To A File Or DirectoryDescription User cannot access the NFS file or directory despite thefact that the user belongs to the group owning the NFSobject and the group members are permitted to performthe operation.Cause NFS servers (versions 2 and 3) use the Remote ProcedureCall (RPC) protocol for authentication of NFS clients. MostRPC clients have a limitation, by design, of up to 16 groupspassed to the NFS server. If a user belongs to more than16 UNIX groups, as supported by some UNIX flavors, someof the groups are not passed and are not checked by theNFS server and thus the user's access may be denied.Workaround A possible way to verify this problem is to use newgrp totemporarily change the primary group of the user and thusensure it is passed to the server. The simple workaround, although not always feasible, is toremove the user from unnecessary groups, leaving only 16groups or less.Troubleshooting Replication IssuesReplication Configuration ErrorDescription Replication between the source and destination NASvolumes fails because the source and destinationsystems’ topologies are incompatible.Cause The source and destination systems are incompatible forreplication purposes.Workaround Upgrade the NAS cluster solution which is down. Verifythe source and destination, both the source anddestination have the same number of NAS controllers.NOTE: You cannot replicate between a 4 node NAScluster and 2 node NAS cluster.Replication Destination Cluster Is BusyDescription Replication between the source NAS volume and thedestination NAS volume fails because the destinationcluster is not available to serve the required replication.Cause Replication task fails because the destination cluster isnot available to serve the required replication.Workaround Administrators must verify the replication status ondestination system.81
