46 | Configuring Wire ModeConnection OverviewWire Mode can be deployed on WAN, LAN, DMZ, and customzones, except for wireless zones. Connect the LAN port of yourexisting Internet gateway device to a 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps port onthe Dell SonicWALL SuperMassive 9800 appliance. Then, connect another interface on your Dell SonicWALL appliance toyour WAN, LAN, DMZ, or custom zone resource. Bothinterfaces must be of the same type, either 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps.Configuring Interfaces for Wire ModeWire Mode can be configured on WAN, LAN, DMZ, and customzones. Wire Mode is a simplified form of Layer 2 Bridged Mode, and is configured as a pair of interfaces. In Wire Mode, thedestination zone is the Paired Interface zone. Access rules areapplied to the Wire Mode pair based on the direction of trafficbetween the source zone and its paired interface zone. Forexample, if the source zone is WAN and the paired interfacezone is LAN, then WAN to LAN and LAN to WAN rules areapplied, depending on the direction of the traffic. In Wire Mode, administrators can enable Link StatePropagation, which propagates the link status on an interface toits paired interface. If an interface goes down, its pairedinterface is forced down to mirror the link status of the firstinterface. This way, both interfaces in a Wire Mode pair alwayshave the same link status.Note: All Wire Mode interfaces must be configured in IPv4.Although Wire Mode is supported for IPv6, you cannotedit Wire Mode settings in IPv6.Dell SonicWALL SuperMassiveThird Party GatewayCustom Zone(WAN)Wire LinkSonicWALL SuperMassive 9800 CONSOLESDHCMGMT X23 X21X20 X6 X41GE10GE X2 X0X1X3X5X7X22B0B1ALARMTESTPWR 1 PWR 2X14 X12X18 X16 X10 X8X9X11X13X15X17X1980GBSSD80GBSSDInternetSuperMassive_9800_GSG.book Page 46 Tuesday, September 9, 2014 7:32 PM
