27ENGLISH16 LAST FUNCTION MEMORY• This unit is equipped with a last function memory which stores the input and output setting conditions as theywere immediately before the power is switched off.• The unit is also equipped with a back-up memory. This function provides approximately one week of memorystorage when the main unit’s power operation switch is off and with the power cord disconnected.NOTES:• If step 3 does not work, start over from step 1.• If the microprocessor has been reset, all the button settings are reset to the default values (the values setupon shipment from the factory).21, 217 INITIALIZATION OF THE MICROPROCESSORWhen the indication of the display is not normal or when the operation of the unit does not shows the reasonableresult, the initialization of the microprocessor is required by the following procedure.1 Switch off the unit using the main unit’s poweroperation switch.2 Hold the following SPEAKER A button and Bbutton, and turn the main unit’s poweroperation switch on.3 Check that the entire display is flashing with aninterval of about 1 second, and release yourfingers from the 2 buttons and themicroprocessor will be initialized.Turning on the main unit’s power from the standby mode without using the remote control unit• Press the power switch on the main unit while pressing the INPUT MODE button on the main unit’s panelto turn on the power.18 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION• Set the front speakers, center speakerand subwoofer in the same positions asin example (1).• Set the surround speakers directly at thesides of the listening position and 60 to90 centimeters (2 to 3 feet) above earlevel.• The signals from the surround channelsreflect off the walls as shown on the diagram at the left, creating anenveloping and realistic surround sound presentation.• Set the front speakers with their frontsurfaces as flush with the TV or monitorscreen as possible. Set the centerspeaker between the front left and rightspeakers and no further from thelistening position than the front speakers.• Consult the owner’s manual for yoursubwoofer for advice on placing thesubwoofer within the listening room.• If the surround speakers are direct-radiating (monopolar) then place themslightly behind and at an angle to the listening position and parallel to thewalls at a position 60 to 90 centimeters (2 to 3 feet) above ear level at theprime listening position.(2) Using diffusion type speakers for the surround speakersFor the greatest sense of surround sound envelopment, diffuse radiation speakers such as bipolar types, ordipolar types, provide a wider dispersion than is possible to obtain from a direct radiating speaker(monopolar).
