In the AUTO position, the blower will start when the thermostat sensesa sufficient increase in firebox temperature.Note: Your fireplace and thermostat blowerwill not turn on and off at the same time. Thefireplace may run for several minutes beforethe blower turns on. After the heater modulatesto the pilot position, the blower will continue torun. The blower will shut off after the fireboxtemperature decreases.Note: It is safe to operate fireplace with blowerturned off. However, the blower helps distrib-ute heated air from the fireplace.AUTO/OFF/ON SwitchFigure 46 - AUTO/OFF/ON Blower SwitchOPERATING FIREPLACEContinuedINSPECTING BURNERSCheck pilot flame pattern and burner flame pat-terns often.PILOT FLAME PATTERNFigure 47 shows a correct pilot flame pattern. Figure48 shows an incorrect pilot flame pattern. The incor-rect pilot flame is not touching the thermocouple. This will cause the thermocouple to cool. When thethermocouple cools, the fireplace will shut down.If pilot flame pattern is incorrect, as shown inFigure 48• turn fireplace off (see To Turn Off Gas to Appli-ance, page 25 for Thermostat-Controlled Mod-els or page 27 for Remote-Ready Models)• see Troubleshooting, page 31Note: The correct pilot flame on natural gas unitswill have a slight curve, but flame should be blueand have no yellow or orange color.Figure 47 - Correct Pilot Flame Pattern(Propane/LP Remote-Ready Shown)Pilot BurnerThermocoupleFigure 48 - Incorrect Pilot Flame Pattern(Propane/LP Remote-Ready Shown)Pilot BurnerThermocoupleFigure 49 - Correct Burner Flame PatternFigure 50 - Incorrect Burner FlamePatternBURNER FLAME PATTERNFigure 49 shows a correct burner flame pattern.Figure 50 shows an incorrect burner flame pat-tern. The incorrect burner flame pattern showssporadic, irregular flame tipping. The flame shouldnot be dark or have an orange/reddish tinge.Note: When using the fireplace the first time, theflame will be orange for approximately one houruntil the log cures. If burner flame pattern is incorrect, as shown inFigure 50• turn fireplace off (see To Turn Off Gas to Ap-pliance, page 25 for Thermostat-ControlledModels or page 27 for Remote-Ready Models)• see Troubleshooting, page 31
