Cap must beremovable for vent inspectionand maintenance.INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS• Wear gloves and safety glasses for pro-tection• Use extreme caution when using laddersor when on roof tops• Be aware of electrical wiring locations inwalls and ceilingsThe following actions will void the warrantyon your venting system:• Installation of any damaged venting com-ponent• Unauthorized modification of the venting sys-tem (Do not cut or alter vent components)• Installation of any component part notmanufactured or approved by DESA Heat-ing, LLC• Installation other than as instructed bythese instructionsWARNING: This gas fireplaceand vent assembly must bevented directly to the outside.The venting system must NEVERbe attached to a chimney serv-ing a separate solid fuel burningappliance. Each direct-vent gasappliance must use a separatevent system. Do not use com-mon vent systems.WARNING: Vent pipe airspace clearances to combus-tibles are 1" on all sides excepton the horizontal sections,which require 2" clearancesfrom the top of the pipe. Wherethe termination cap penetratesa combustible wall, 1" air spaceclearance is required.NOTICE: Read these instruc-tions completely before attempt-ing installation.These models are tested and approved foruse with DESA Heating, LLC (direct-vent) pipecomponents and terminations.The venting system must terminate on the out-side of the structure and can not be attachedto a chimney or flue system serving a separatesolid fuel or gas burning appliance. A direct-ventappliance must have its own venting system.DO NOT common vent this appliance.These models are approved to be ventedeither horizontally through an outside wall orvertically through a roof or chase enclosureusing the following guidelines:• When venting system terminates horizon-tally on an outside wall, you may installa standoff if the termination cap is to beinstalled directly on a combustible finishsuch as vinyl, wood, stucco, etc.• Never run the vent downward as this maycause excessive temperatures which couldcause a fire.• Vent pipe air space clearances to com-bustibles are 1" on all sides except on thehorizontal sections, which requires 2" clear-ance from the top of the pipe. Where thetermination cap penetrates a combustiblewall, 1" air space clearance is required.• Snorkel terminations are required whenminimum clearance to grade cannot bemet (see Figure 16 on page 13).• Have fireplace and selected vent compo-nents on hand to help determine the exactmeasurements when elbowing or offsetting.Always use wall firestops when penetratingwalls and firestops when penetrating ceil-ings or attic spaces.• If using a venting configuration of onlyhorizontal venting with no vertical run, a1/4" rise for every 12" of run toward thetermination is required.• For installation of fireplace at elevations of4000 feet or greater, pay special attentionto venting requirement recommendations.WARNING: Read all instructionscompletely and thoroughly beforeattempting installation.
