Larger elements have liningsattached with flat head screws and locknuts.Air-flex special wrench p/n 304572 will aid inholding the locknuts during removal. Push the valves on the tube through thecorresponding holes in the rim and install thespiral snap rings (if applicable).4.7.5 Place a torque bar in each mating hole in theside plate, slide a friction shoe assembly ontoeach torque bar and carefully tap a releasespring (51VC1600,60VC1600 and 66VC1600elements have two release springs in eachcavity) into place. Make sure the spring ispositioned on the side of the torque baropposite the friction lining. Also, the springmust contact the torque bar at two points, notone. The rivets areinstalled by driving the pinflush with the head. . 14Assembly of the ElementMake sure that all of the components havebeen cleaned and any damaged or worn com-ponents have been repaired or replaced.Assemble one of the side plates to the rimwith cap screws and lo&washers. It is notnecessary to install through bolts and locknutsat this time.Lay the rim/side plate assembly on a clean, flatwork surface, side plate down.VC 5000Revised: July, 1995 (PDF format)) / P l a t e4.7.84.7.94.7.104.7.11 Reinstall per 2.0.15\TorqueBarFig. 15Lay the remaining side plate in position so theair connections and torque bar holes areproperly aligned.Carefully guide the torque bars into the cor-responding holes in the side plate. It is oftenhelpful to install four equally spaced screwsand nuts through the rim and side plate tokeep some tension on the side platethroughout this step.Attach the side plate to the rim with capscrews and lockwashers, making sure all ofthe torque bars are seated in their side plateholes.Note the orientation of the air connectionsand install the through bolts and locknutswhere applicable.Reinstall the elbows (or quick release valves),using a good quality sealant on the pipethreads. Install the air connections on singlenarrow, dual narrow and single wide elements.Install only the short air connections (elementclosest to spider) on dual wide elements.0 Copyright Eaton Corp., 1989.
