InstallationS811+ Soft Starter MN03900001E—November 2012 11Power WiringUsing the wiring diagrams in below as guides, connect theLine and Motor wiring in accordance with appropriate localand national codes.Note: To provide optimum motor protection the Line andMotor power wiring should be tightly bundled and runperpendicular to the orientation of the S811+.WARNINGHazardous voltage can cause electric shock and burns. Toavoid shock hazard, disconnect all power to thecontroller, motor or other control devices before anywork is performed on this equipment. Failure to do sowill result in personal injury, death or substantialproperty damage.Do not apply a disconnect device on the output of theS811+ Soft Starter unless a means to turn off the softstarter when disconnect switch is open is utilized.Opening a disconnect while the Soft Starter is operatingmay cause a malfunction. Closing a disconnect switchwhile the Soft Starter is operating will result in a softstarter failure and potential equipment damage andpersonnel hazard.Note: Short circuit protection must be applied on the lineside of the soft starter. The S811+ may be wired in an inline, or inside-the-deltaconfiguration.By factory default, the S811+ is to be connected with anABC phase rotation on the incoming power wiring. If themotor turns in the incorrect direction upon energization, exchange two phases at the motor terminal box or at theoutput terminals of the soft starter. Changing the input wiringmay cause a voltage phase reversal trip.If the input phase sequence to the S811+ cannot bechanged, the incoming Phase Sequence parameter in theSoft Start Config. Menu may be set to ACB. Setting ACB asthe incoming phase sequence causes the S811+ torecognize the reverse direction of phase rotation. Phaserotation selection and monitoring may be turned off bysetting the Phase Sequence Parameter in the Soft StartConfig Menu.! IMPORTANTA reversing contactor must never be switched while the softstarter is operating. In order to gain the full benefit of theS811+ with a reversing contactor, the S811+ needs to beOFF when switching the direction of the motor. The softstarter settings must account for catching a motor spinning inthe opposite direction upon soft restarts. The time requiredfor slowing the motor to a stop and then ramping up to speedin the opposite direction adds to the overall starting time. This condition will also impact the overload protectionsetting.See the Motor/Application Considerations in Appendix E forinformation on typical motor winding configurations.Inline Connected Soft Starter (default) Power WiringDiagram S811+…N3S, S811+…P3S, S811+…V3SInside-the-Delta Connected Soft Starter Power WiringDiagram S811+…N3S, S811+P3SM3~2 T1 4 T2 6 T31 L1 3 L2 5 L3M3~2 T1 T2 6 T31 L1L1T5 T4 T6T3 T2 T1L2L3Q13 L 542 L3
