Eaton SONIX Vw2 Technical Manual
Sonix Vw2 Technical Manual12 SONIX VW2 TECHNICAL MANUAL TM368 / A May 2022 www.eaton.com5.3 Beacon loop monitoringThe Vw2 unit will, if configured, regularly send a shortpulse of power out of the output port of each beaconport and sense the energy coming back to the returnport. If the return energy is not seen within the testingwindow, nominally ¼ second, then that beacon outputport is considered to be ‘in fault’ and a fault flag isgenerated. Any fault flags are communicated to the 2Mxand then onto the wider PA/GA system.ote:N Setting to ‘Never’ prevents regular automatic testing but NOTmanually initiated testing from the 2Mx central controller.ote:N Beacon test interval is reduced to 10 minutes in the event of afailed test on either port to enable faster fault recovery.Key settings:Beacon loop test interval 10-30 minutesLoop 1 Fault Monitoring EnabledLoop 2 Fault Monitoring Enabled6 Setup and ConfigurationIf the Vw2 unit is being supplied as a replacement in anexisting system, it shall be shipped as fully configuredfor ease of replacement. Otherwise, the unit comespre-configured with generic setup used for quality andfunctionality testing and should be reconfigured forappropriate use.ote:N Not all settings are covered in this manual, for full details onavailable settings please refer to SAS Product Manual.Sonix modules – the Vw2 included – have beendesigned to be configurable via SAS application. Adetailed description of all the configuration optionsis included in SAS Product Manual, but some of theoptions are worth mentioning here for clarity andcompletion.6.1 Unit IDEach Vw2 unit connected to the system must have aunique identifier, called a Unit ID. This can be set to anynumber between 1 and 31 (inclusive) and is used toidentify the module to the 2Mx and SAS.6.1.1 Ping set (Set a new Unit ID)Ping set is generated by SAS and is used to give thetarget Vw2 a new Unit ID.Unlike other Sonix modules, the Vw2 unit will acceptthe Ping Set command without acknowledging it to theuser, meaning, that it does not require user’s action toconfirm the change of Unit ID. Because of that, greatcare should be taken while setting the Unit ID for Vw2units – if there is more than one Vw2 unit connected ina chain, the other units should be disconnected fromthe Beacon Bus during Ping Set operations so that theydo not acquire the new Unit ID number. An alternativesolution is to connect directly to the unit on the top portconnection, ensuring the data rate of SAS is adjusted tobe standard speed not high speed.ote:N Use Ping Set on individually connected units only.6.2 Rx Data CheckThe Vw2 units monitor the Beacon Bus for Data flowingin both directions. In normal operation the final unit inthe chain will not receive any data on its bottom port. This will generate an error; therefore Rx Data Checkoption should be set to Disabled for this unit to avoidfalse error notification. Please refer to SAS ProductManualfor details.DisabledRx Data Check |
