Sonix Vw2 Technical Manual8 SONIX VW2 TECHNICAL MANUAL TM368 / A May 2022 www.eaton.com4 Installation and connectivity4.1 Physical installation of the unitThe Sonix Vw2 is a DIN rail mount unit, intended to bemounted inside the PA/GA cabinet on most standard EN60715 rails:• EN 50022 (Top hat, TS35, TS35D, type “O” or type“Ω”) 35 x 7.5/15 mm rail,• EN 50045 (mini Top hat or TS15) 15 x 5.5 mm rail,• EN 50035 (type G or TS32) 32 x 15 mm.Unit is simply clipped onto the appropriate rail, alwayscheck that all sets of fixings have engaged correctly onthe rail.ote:N Care must be taken to ensure that the product is correctly sup-ported within the cabinet. Always check that both sets of fixings havefully engaged on the rail and the unit is secured on both ends, with nopossibility of it to slide along the din rail.4.2 DC PowerThe Vw2 is powered externally by 48 V dc. Eatonrecommends the supply voltage to be taken fromdedicated dc power output connection of the SonixPm10 (see Pm10 Product Manual for connection details).Green LED (D20) visible next to the power supply inputterminals illuminates to indicate that unit is powered up.Figure 2 - DC Power connectionsote:N As these cables are power feeds, they should be – where pos-sible – routed within the PA/GA system in a separate way to avoidcontact with signal or audio cables and reduce the possibility of interfer-ence.Warning: Observe the polarity of incomingpower supply cables. Maximum cable sectionsupported by the unit are:Solid: 4.0 mm 2Stranded: 2.5 mm 2 including sleeved ornon-sleeved ferrule4.3 Earth connectionThe Sonix Vw2 unit has an M4 stud for connection toEarth. The Earth connection is used as a protectionmechanism for the unit and any connected beacons plusas a low impedance return for the surge arresters fittedto the unit.It is strongly recommended that the Earth connection bemade to PE (Protective Earth) only.Cable sizing is as follows:Recommended 4.0 mm 2Minimum 2.5 mm 2Warning: This unit MUST be connectedto a protective earth and verified duringcommissioningWarning: Ensure that the Earth connection isfully secured before commencing power-up.4.4 Lightning/Surge arrestersMetal oxide varistors have been fitted to the Sonix Vw2to act as Lightning / surge arresters. They are placed toreduce the likelihood of damage to equipment in the rackfrom a lightning strike in the field.Warning: Care must be taken to ensure beaconsupply voltage does not exceed maximumworking voltage or varistors will activate andattempt to limit supply voltage.ote:N If system is installed in an area with high likelihood of lightningthen additional, suitably rated surge arresters should be installed on theincoming field cabling.
