Sonix Vw2 Technical Manual9SONIX VW2 TECHNICAL MANUAL TM368 / A May 2022 www.eaton.com4.5 Beacon Bus connectionThe Vw2 connects to the Sonix 2Mx beacon buscommunication channel via duplicated CAT6A cables, using RS-485 serial standard. The Sonix PA/GAconvention is that the Beacon bus uses PINK colouredCAT6A cables which connect to the colour coordinatedBeacon Bus sockets on the rear of the 2Mx unit. How the unit is connected in the system depends on thetype of the system and the number of units.4.5.1 Connecting Vw2 within standalone or A&B systems:The 2Mx beacon bus connections are always top-topand bottom-bottom, i.e. top port of Vw2 connects to thetop port of the Beacon Bus on the 2Mx. Whereas anyinter Vw2 connections are always top-bottom.For single unit the return link (bottom port of Vw2)connects to the bottom port of the Beacon Bus on the2Mx, as shown below.Figure 3 - Single Vw2 bus connectionsWhere multiple Vw2 units are connected, the bottomconnector of the first Vw2 unit connects to the top onthe next Vw2, until returning to the 2Mx, as shownbelow.Figure 4 - Multiple Vw2 connections4.5.2 Connecting Vw2 within N+1 systems:Due to the nature of the N+1 configuration of the Sonixsystem, the additional tapping board (PX10690060) isrequired. For connection details, please refer to 2MxTechnical Manual.ote:N It is recommended that within the PA/GA cabinet the connectingcables do not exceed 25 meters in length, regardless of the systemconfiguration.4.6 Beacon power input connectionThe Vw2 beacon input power terminals should beconnected to the required beacon supply. Each Vw2input must be protected by an appropriately rated doublepole RCBO or equivalent.Figure 5 - Vw2 Beacon power inputAccepted beacon voltages are as follows, if othervoltages are required please contact your local Eatonrepresentative:• 48 V dc,• 110 V ac,• 240 V ac.Maximum cable section supported by the unit inputport is:Solid: 16.0 mm 2Stranded: 16.0 mm 2 including sleeved or non-sleeved ferruleWarning: A suitably rated RCBO MUST beinstalled in the Vw2 input supply to disconnectboth sides of the supply.4.6.1 Automatic redundant power switchoverThe Sonix Vw2 unit does not have the ability to supportredundant power sources internally. If redundantsupplies are a requirement then using a dual-polechange-over relay in the following connectivity isrecommended.Figure 6 - Redundant power switchover connectionsThe relay will not be regularly switching under load andcan be sized for steady state current handling. The relaymust be suitable for 100% duty cycle.Warning: A suitably rated MCB MUST beinstalled in the two beacon input supplies inaddition to the RCBO per Vw2 unit.Warning: The beacon supply MCBs and change-over relay must be rated to supply ALL of theattached beacon loops.2Mx Unit2Mx UnitVw2 UnitVw2 UnitVw2 UnitVw2 UnitDisabledData Out Port 2DisabledData Out Port 1EnabledLoop 2 Fault MonitoringEnabledLoop 1 Fault Monitoring10 MinutesBeacon Loop Test IntervalDisabledRx Data Check2Mx Unit2Mx UnitVw2 UnitVw2 UnitVw2 UnitVw2 UnitDisabledData Out Port 2DisabledData Out Port 1EnabledLoop 2 Fault MonitoringEnabledLoop 1 Fault Monitoring10 MinutesBeacon Loop Test IntervalDisabledRx Data CheckBeacon SupplyPrimary L / +N / -EJ2RelayOther Vw2 unitsTTBeacon SupplyPrimaryBeacon SupplySecondaryBeacon SupplyPrimaryBeacon SupplyL / +N / -EJ2TTL / +N / -EL / +N / -EJ1 / J6Beacon SupplyPrimary L / +N / -EJ2RelayOther Vw2 unitsTTBeacon SupplyPrimaryBeacon SupplySecondaryBeacon SupplyPrimaryBeacon SupplyL / +N / -EJ2TTL / +N / -EL / +N / -EJ1 / J6 |
