28OPERATIONAlways use 2 hands tohold unitStop unit immediately ifsudden vibration occurs• ALWAYS use extra care to maintain footing aroundsloping, hilly, or slippery ground, and around unevensurfaces like steps, raised walkways, edging, andcurbs.• ALWAYS hold the unit firmly with two hands, withthumbs wrapped around the handles for a secure,comfortable grip. Left/front handle in left hand andright/rear handle in right hand.• ALWAYS cut using a stable stance, with both feeton the ground.• NEVER stand on a ladder or other temporaryplatform. You can fall or slip, and injure yourself orothers.• NEVER allow others near the cutting/work area, orto hold material you are cutting.• ALWAYS keep both hands on the unit to maintaincontrol.• ALWAYS keep the muffler exhaust directed awayfrom your body.• NEVER touch the muffler, muffler cover, or surround-ing area. Allow the unit to cool down before per-forming any maintenance in the muffler area.• NEVER allow flammable debris such as driedleaves and sticks to build up in the exhaust area.Heat from operation can ignite these materials, andcause fire.• ALWAYS keep fingers, hands, and all other bodyparts away from the cutting/work attachment andcutting/work area.• NEVER allow anyone to reach into the cutting/workarea for any reason while the unit is running.• ALWAYS maintain a direct line of sight to the cut-ting/work attachment and the area where cutting/work is being performed. Be aware of what lies inthe path of the cutting/work attachment at all times.• NEVER work in the dark or when visibility of thework area is poor.• ALWAYS be alert for changes in operation thatcould signal a problem - sudden vibration, unusualnoise, the strong smell of fuel, or poor engine perfor-mance, all require immediate attention. Stop theunit and correct any problems before resumingcutting.• NEVER carry unit around the work site while theblade or attachment is rotating. ALWAYS shut theengine off and let the blade or attachment stopbefore lifting the unit and moving to a new position.
