7AustraliaThe OvensDuring use the appliance becomeshot. Care should be taken to avoid thetouching hot areas inside the oven. The clock must be set to the time of day before theovens will work. See ‘The Clock’ section of theseinstructions for how to set the clock.1Push in and turn the knob controlling the oven to thefull on position. The oven will light automatically.2Turn the control knob back to the Mark you wish tocook on and for best results pre-heat for 15 minutesbefore placing your dishes in the oven.3The ovens use our special ‘Heatflow’ system.Because the oven burner is not hidden under the ovenbase you will see the burner flames at the back of theoven - this is perfectly normal. The oven is protected by a safety cut off, which reducesthe supply of gas to the oven if the flames go out, e.g.an interruption to the mains supply.Initially the gas will burn with a small flame but afterapproximately one minute the flame will become largerindicating that the oven is full on.4Dishes cooking on the central shelf will cook at thetemperature indicated on the knob.5Dishes placed above the central position will be cookedat approximately 10° higher, dishes cooked belowapproximately 10° lower. You can therefore cook dishesrequiring different temperatures at the same time.6During cooking, food naturally produces steam, particulary when cooking foods with high watercontent (e.g. oven chips). There may be some steamvisible at the grille at the rear of the hotplate and thebottom of the left hand door. This is perfectly normal.Steam can condense to water droplets on the coolouter trim or the oven door. It may be necessary duringcooking to wipe away any moisture with a soft cloth. This will also help to prevent soiling and discolourationof the oven exterior by cooking vapours.Take care when opening the oven door as there maybe a momentary puff of steam when the oven dooris opened. Stand well back and allow any steam todisperse
