GARLAND ELECTRIC CLAMSHELL BROILER GRILL, CXBE12 MODEL INSTALLATION OPERATION MANUALPart #4532096 Rev 6 (25 Oct 2013) Page 15LATCH SYSTEM INTERNAL OPERATION - A, UNLATCHINGCheck list for the top platen grate latch mechanism and the to the cowl assembly:HOT SURFACEGrill TemperaturesWill Cause SevereBurnsPPEApproved PersonalProtective EquipmentMust be wornHow to un-latch top grate from cowl assembly.Untighten knob counterclockwise aproximately fiveturns (as shown in figure #1), until grate will dropaproximately 1/4” to a safety lock, not allowing thegrate to drop all the way down (as shown in figure#2).LatchGrateCowl Ass'yFigure #1 shows the latch system locked in place.1/4" dropFigure #2 shows the latch system in safety place.Simultaneously push the grate up while pulling theknob out to release the grate as shown in figure#3. (knob does not come out of the cowl assembly)Grate can now separate from the cowl assembly.Keep holding the grate until the resting position.PullFigure #3 shows the latch completely un-latchedfrom the cowl assembly.Important note: Hand support should bemaintained until the grate is fully locked in closedor open resting position, to prevent the suddendrop of the grate assembly.
