5When two sided cooking, the area between the upperplaten and the griddle plate should be regarded as a“danger zone”. During two sided cooking the operatormust not be within this danger zone. When used as aflat grill, then this area is no longer a danger zone, theplatens do not move.For whatever reason, be it cleaning, maintenance,normal operation, any exposed person must useextreme caution if within this danger zone.If for any reason the grill is required to be brought toan immediate stop, this is achieved by turning thepower switch, which is marked start and stop, and islocated on the front panel adjacent to the grill control,to the stop position.In two side cooking the upper platen remains in thelowered position by nature of it’s own weight. It is notlocked down. It can be raised by lifting of the handleon the front of the platen, which pivots the platen aboutits rear mounting point.The clamshell grill may during its operation emitairborne noise equivalent to a continuous A weightedsound pressure level of 73dB(A).The clamshell grill must only be used for single andtwo sided cooking of foodstuffs in a McDonald’s storeand must not be used for any other purpose.WARNING: To avoid serious personal injury:DO NOT attempt to repair or replace any part of theclamshell grill unless all main powersupplies to the grill have been disconnected.USE EXTREME CAUTION in setting up, operatingand cleaning the clamshell grill to avoid coming incontact with hot grill surfaces or hot grease. If theupper platens are in the lowered positionthey will return to their raised upperposition. This movement takesapproximately 8 seconds.LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS:1. Ensure that the flexible gas hose is connected tothe grill and the power cords are plugged into thereceptacles.2. Turn the main power switch ON and allow thecontrols to go through the power-up self-check.Once the control(s) panel displays the word “OFF”,the unit is ready to begin the heating process.3. By selecting any of the menu items (pressing themenu button) the controls will automatically initiatethe heating cycle appropriate for the menu itemselected. The burner(s) should light and heat untilthe temperature specified by the menu item hasbeen obtained.4. If ignition of the burner does not occur on the firsttrial, the second from the bottom indicator light willflash amber. If the burner(s) does not light withinfour trials for ignition, the control(s) will display aflashing warning “IGNITION FAILURE”, the flashingamber light will turn to solid red and an audiblealarm will sound. If this occurs, turn the mainpower switch off, wait 5 minutes, then repeat steps2 and 3.SHUT DOWN INSTRUCTIONS:1. To shut down unit at any time, switch the mainpower switch to off (non-lit) position.2. For extended shut down periods, switch mainpower switch to off position, disconnect unit fromgas supply line and unplug electrical connections.MAINTENANCE - the platen support arms carriageblock bearing bushes, the platen adjuster nuts, theplaten support (shoulder) bolt and the cam followershould be checked annually for wear. Should there beany noticeable play in the bearing bushes and anyvisible wear on the platen adjuster nuts, platen supportbolts or cam follower, then they must be replaced.MAINTENANCE - the audible alarm that sounds onplaten lowering, platen raising and 5 seconds beforethe completion of the cooking cycle is to advise theoperator that the platen is about to move. The functionof this device may be tested by pushing the left handCANCEL button. If no sound is heard, ensure that thealarm volume is not set to low in SYSTEM SETUP. If
