5 - PROCEDURES104 190-00356-00 Rev GILS Approach 430W Only1. Select the departure (CSTL1) from the pro-cedures page. Then select the departurerunway (RW02, in this example) and transition(GEDIC).2. As you depart the airfield, “NEXT DTK 026°”appears in the lower right corner of the screenand “SUSP” appears directly above the OBSkey. You are now on the “course from fix tomanual sequence” leg. The distance displayedon the active flight plan, default NAV and mappages is FROM the waypoint fix (the departurerunway, in this example).3. Fly the outbound course keeping the CDI needlecentered. Once you are cleared to sequence tothe next leg, press the OBS key. Confirm that“SUSP” no longer appears directly above theOBS key. An alert (“NEXT DTK 183°”) willappear in the lower right corner of the screento guide you to the next waypoint (HFD VOR).The actual desired track (DTK) will depend onyour ground speed and distance from HFDVOR.4. Once the OBS key is pressed, the 400W-seriesunit will automatically sequence to eachwaypoint along the remainder of the departureroute, including the selected transition.ILS ApproachesPrecision approaches can be performed with theGNS 430W’s built-in VLOC (VOR/localizer/glideslope)receivers. The GPS receiver can be used for guidanceprior to reaching the final approach fix, but oncethere, the proper frequency must be selected on theVLOC window (left side of screen) and the CDI outputset to “VLOC”.The GNS 430W can be set to automatically switchthe external CDI output from GPS to VLOC as youintercept the final approach course (if used with aKAP140/KFC225 autopilot, you will need to manu-ally enable outputs). See instructions at the end of thissection. When the ILS approach is activated, the GNS430W will automatically switch within 1.2 NM left orright of the final approach course. This switch can takeplace anywhere from 2.0 to 15.0 NM from the FAF.The illustration at right shows multiple locationsalong the approach path and which CDI selectionyou can expect: GPS or VLOC. Within the area of theshaded box, the automatic switch from GPS to VLOCshould occur.NOTE: If you attempt to intercept the approachcourse at a distance less than 2.0 NM from theFAF, the GNS 430W will not automatically switchthe CDI to VLOC. In this case, press the CDI key tomanually switch from GPS to VLOC.
