4 - FLIGHT PLANS80 190-00356-00 Rev GActive Flight Plan ShortcutsFlight Plan Transfer Feature (optional withsoftware V 3.20 or later)The Flight Plan Card feature is available for trans-ferring flight plans to the unit via a Garmin proprietarydata card. The flight plans may be created on a PCusing flight planning software that is compatible withGarmin equipment (Jeppesen FliteStar is an example).In addition to the flight planning software, it is neces-sary to purchase a flight plan transfer kit from Garmin.The kit contains the required hardware (including ablank data card and card programmer) and Garminsoftware that must be installed on the PC. Up to 19flight plans and 1,000 user waypoints, created usingthe flight planning software, can be loaded on to adata card via the PC software and then transferred tothe 500W Unit using the procedure described below.The process can be repeated as many times as desiredusing the same card with different flight plans and userwaypoints loaded. If additional data cards are desired,they can be purchased from Garmin separately.NOTE: Flight plans are not veriifed by Garmin,it is the pilot’s responsibility to verify all flightplans.Using the Flight Plan Card to load flight plans intothe 400W Unit:1. With the unit powered off, remove the TerrainCard, located in the right slot.2. Place the Flight Plan Card in the empty rightslot.3. Apply power to the unit.4. Once initialization has completed, the unitwill default to the third FPL page (this thirdpage only exists when the Flight Plan Card isin use).5. Turn the small right knob to select theflight plan file to transfer and catalognumber to use. Turn the large right knobto move between fields. Press ENT to con-firm selections and initiate transfers.NOTE: If a user waypoint with the same namealready exists in the 500W and is more than 10meters from the imported user waypoint, theimported user waypoint will be automaticallyrenamed by adding a digit (0-9) to the end of thewaypoint’s name. Also, a message will appearto inform the user that a waypoint has beenrenamed.NOTE: Flight plan ifles that contain only userwaypoints (with no flight plan route) may betransferred. In this case, only the user waypointswill be transferred and no flight plans will bemodiifed. A message will appear to indicate this.
