Thisfeature can be helpful if your unit is ever misplaced.To open the Welcome sub tab, press MEnU twice to open the MainMenu. Select Setup from the vertical tab list. Then select Welcomefrom the row of tabs along the top of the page.Welcome Sub TabEnter the information in the fields. You do not need to enterinformation in every field.To show this information at start up, highlight the box next to Showat power-up. Press EntEr to place a check mark in the box. Tohide the welcome information at start up, remove the check markfrom the box.Interface Sub TabThe Interface sub tab controls the input/output format used whenconnecting your unit to external devices. To open the Interface subtab, press MEnU twice to open the Main Menu. Select Setup fromthe vertical tab list. Highlight and select the Serial Data Format youwant.Interface Sub TabSerial Data Format—sets the data format to one of the following:garmin Data transfer—the proprietary format used toexchange data with a PC or another Garmin GPSMAP 496.Garmin Data Transfer is disabled when the USB is connected andthe unit automatically switches to USB format. When the USB isdisconnected, the USB field changes to Transfer Mode.•
