The StreetPilot III will“speak” status messages (if enabled), such as “external power lost”, and route navigation messages, suchas “drive point eight miles west and turn right”. If enabled, a single chime will precede all automaticvoice navigation messages (see ‘Attention Tone’ below). There are three possible voice messages perroute leg. The first one comes right after you have completed a turn and are starting a new leg: thevoice message will be preceded by a lower pitched tone. The second message will come toward theend of the leg depending on how fast you are progressing: this message is also preceded by a lowerpitched tone. The last message on the route leg comes right before a turn and is preceded by a higherpitched tone.By selecting “SPEAK Key Only” on the ‘General’ tabunder the ‘Voice’ function, the unit will only talk whenthe SPEAK key is pressed. The ‘Attention Tone’ fi eld determines whether voiceprompts are preceded by a chime.
