2020/4820/4820 i User’s Guide 4 - 23FIPS Encryption IndicatorsNote: The following information applies to FIPS-encrypted devices.LED and Beeper IndicatorsThe scanner and base have separate indicators that can be enabled or disabledto help identify the status of the FIPS 140-2 encryption module.Scanner IndicatorsTo turn on indicators for the scanner, scan Enable Scanner Indicators.Without pointing at a barcode, pull the trigger and look at the LEDs on the backof the scanner.Success IndicatorOrange LED: If it illuminates with every trigger pull it means the FIPS securityis working and data transmissions between the scanner and base areencrypted. It also means the FIPS software has been loaded in the scannerand base successfully.Error IndicatorRed LED: If it illuminates with every trigger pull it means the FIPS security isnot working and transmissions between the scanner and base will not beencrypted. It means the FIPS software was installed in the scanner, but notin the base.Security Warning Beep When Scanning a Standard Barcode: A good readbeep followed by a short double beep with a 1 minute pause sequence after ascan means the last transmission was not encrypted.
