What your server offersThe server uses the following features and technologies:v Mini baseboard management controller (mini-BMC)The mini-BMC provides basic service-processor environmental monitoringfunctions. If an environmental condition exceeds a threshold or if a systemcomponent fails, the mini-BMC lights LEDs to help you diagnose the problem.v High-performance graphics controllerThe server comes with an integrated graphics controller. This high-performancecontroller supports high resolutions and includes many performance-enhancingfeatures for the operating-system environment.v IBM Enhanced Diagnostics CDThe server comes with an IBM Enhanced Diagnostics CD, which you can use todiagnose problems.v IBM DirectorIBM Director is a workgroup-hardware-management tool that you can use tocentrally manage System x ® and xSeries servers. For more information, see theIBM Director documentation on the IBM Director CD.v IBM ServerGuide Setup and Installation CDThe ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD that comes with the server providesprograms to help you set up the server and install a Windows ® operating system. The ServerGuide ™ program detects installed optional hardware devices andprovides the correct configuration programs and device drivers. For more information about the ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD, see“Using the ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD” on page 51.v Integrated network supportThe server comes with an integrated Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernetcontroller, which supports connection to a 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, or 1000 Mbpsnetwork. For more information, see “Configuring the Broadcom NetXtremeGigabit Ethernet controller” on page 54.v Large data-storage capacity and hot-swap capabilitiesSome server models support up to four 25.4 mm (1 inch) slim-high, 3.5 inchhot-swap hard disk drives in the hot-swap bays. With the hot-swap feature, youcan add, remove, or replace hard disk drives without turning off the server.v Large system-memory capacityThe server supports up to 8 GB of system memory. The memory controllersupports error correcting code (ECC) for up to four industry-standard, 1.8 V,184-pin, double-data-rate 2 (DDR2), PC2-5300 unbuffered, synchronous dynamicrandom-access memory (SDRAM) dual inline memory modules (DIMMs).v Redundant connectionThe addition of an optional network interface card (NIC) provides a failovercapability to a redundant Ethernet connection. If a problem occurs with theprimary Ethernet connection, all Ethernet traffic that is associated with theprimary connection is automatically switched to the redundant NIC. If theapplicable device drivers are installed, this switching occurs without data loss andwithout user intervention.v ServeRAID ™ supportThe server supports ServeRAID adapters to create redundant array ofindependent disks (RAID) configurations. The server also has integrated RAIDlevel-0 and level-1 support in selected models.4 System x3200 Types 4362 and 4363: User’s Guide
