the user can set, change, and delete the power-on password, if the systemadministrator has given the user that authority.Power-on passwordIf a power-on password is set, when you turn on the server, the system startup willnot be completed until you type the power-on password. You can use anycombination of up to seven characters (A – Z, a – z, and 0 – 9) for the password.If a power-on password is set, you can enable the Unattended Start mode, in whichthe keyboard and mouse remain locked but the operating system can start. You canunlock the keyboard and mouse by typing the power-on password.If you forget the power-on password, you can regain access to the server in any ofthe following ways:v If an administrator password is set, type the administrator password at thepassword prompt (see “Administrator password”). Start the Configuration/SetupUtility program and reset the power-on password.v Change the position of the power-on password override jumper (J52) on thesystem board to bypass the power-on password check.v Remove the server battery and then reinstall it.After you regain access to the server, you can reset the power-on password. See“Resetting passwords” for additional information.Administrator passwordIf an administrator password is set, you must type the administrator password foraccess to the full Configuration/Setup Utility menu. You can use any combination ofup to seven characters ((A – Z, a – z, and 0 – 9) for the password.If you forget the administrator password, you can reset it. See “Resettingpasswords” for additional information.Resetting passwordsIf you forget the power-on password or the administrator password, you can resetthe password after you perform one of the following actions:v You can change the position of the power-on password override jumper (J52) onthe system board to bypass the power-on password check. This enables you toreset the passwords without clearing all of the current system configurationvalues.v You can remove the server battery and then reinstall it. This clears the currentsystem configuration values and resets them to their default values.
