PREFACEThank you for selecting a JBL®S4800 loudspeaker system. Itrepresents the sum total of ourresearch and developmentalefforts in sound reproduction overthe last half-century. We havelabored to create a loudspeakersystem with no acoustical or elec-trical limitations whatsoever. Whilethe S4800 loudspeaker is itself anew development, the goal behindit goes right back to the earliestdays of the original James B.Lansing Sound Company.But it is your listening pleasure thatultimately determines how success-ful we are in this endeavor. It issolely in the interest of ensuring aperfect listening experience thatwe ask you to faithfully follow thesetup and operation proceduresoutlined in this owner’s guide.This guide exists for severalpurposes. As your owner’s manual,it contains all necessary back-ground information and detailedinstructions for setting up yourS4800 loudspeaker system, includ-ing unpacking the loudspeaker;selecting the correct location,speaker wire, wiring scheme andamplification; and connecting itto its associated electronics.This information will be found inChapters 2 through 6. In addition,we have included a detaileddescription of the S4800 speaker(Chapter 1) so that you maybecome thoroughly acquaintedwith its unique design andtechnological features.Although physically and materiallyimposing, the setup procedure ofthe S4800 loudspeaker system isrelatively simple.
