13The alignment pin (E) only works at 90° and mustbe reinserted when the table is returned to 90°.Reinsert the alignment pin, along with the nut, andtap it lightly with a rubber mallet for full insertion.Figure 158.3 Table insert levelingRefer to Figure 16.The insert should be flush with the table surface:1. Remove the two screws beneath table insert(G, Figure 16).2. Loosen any of the wing nuts (H) and rotate thebolts (J) as needed until the insert is level withthe table surface.TIP: A straight edge clamped to the table andacross the insert will facilitate correct levelingduring this procedure.3. Tighten all four wing nuts.4. The two screws (G) may be reinstalled, ifdesired, to retain insert in position.Figure 168.4 Table slotsThe table has four through-slots and two T-slots,for attaching clamps, fence, or other accessories.8.5 Chuck and arbor removalRefer to Figure 17.1. Disconnect machine from power source.2. Lower the table to clear the chuck area.4. Lower quill assembly with the downfeedhandles to expose slot and lock it in thelowered position (see sect. 8.5, Quill retractionlock). While maintaining the lowered quillposition, rotate spindle by hand to align theslot in the spindle with the slot in the quill.5. Insert drift key (HP1) into the aligned slots andtap lightly. The chuck and arbor assemblyshould fall from the spindle.Prepare to catch the chuckand arbor as it drops. Striking the floorcould damage tool.Figure 178.6 Installing bitsThe chuck accepts bits with a 5/8” or smallershank.1. Insert bit (not provided) into chuck jaws withabout 1” insertion. When using a small bit, donot insert it so far that the jaws touch the flutesof the bit.2. Make sure bit is centered in chuck beforetightening chuck.3. Turn chuck key clockwise to tighten chuckjaws. See Figure 18. NOTE: Insert chuck keyinto each of the three holes in the chuck andtighten to ensure tightness of each jaw.4. The chuck key has a spring-loaded pin toprevent it being left in the chuck. However, always check the area and clear away anytools before starting the drill press.5. Turn chuck key counterclockwise to loosenchuck jaws and remove bit.
