96.4 LocationThe drill press should be placed in a dry area, witha level floor and good lighting. Provide enoughspace around drill press to allow for operations andany adjustments or servicing.6.5 AssemblyDo not connect drill press topower source until machine has been fullyassembled.1. Place the base upon a level floor. It may besecured to the floor with lag screws (notprovided) through the two holes in the base.Refer to Figure 1 for hole spacing. If you do not wish permanent attachment tothe floor, the drill press can be bolted to aplywood panel which will serve as anexpanded base and further stabilize themachine. Use a high grade of plywood (notparticle board) at least 3/4" thick. It should belarge enough to prevent vibration, sliding ormoving of drill press during operation. Do notuse a mobile base with this machine.2. Make sure the set screw (Figure 4) is tightagainst the column. Tighten further if needed, using a 5mm hex key.Figure 43. Lay the column assembly down on an elevatedsurface (such as the included polystyrenepackaging). Attach base to column foot withfour M8x40 socket head cap screws and four8mm flat washers (HP8/HP9, Figure 5), usinga 6mm hex key. NOTE: Align base and foot sothat their edges are flush.4. Tighten screws firmly.Figure 55. Set column assembly upright.6. Insert the worm shaft (HP6, Figure 6) throughthe hole in the table bracket as far as it will go,meshing the worm with the teeth on the gear.Figure 67. Position rack (F, Figure 7) into the slot in tablebracket. The longer flat portion of the rackshould be at the top, the short flat portion atthe bottom. Mesh the rack teeth with the wormgear in the table bracket.8. With the aid of a second person, hold the rackin the slot, while setting the table bracket overthe top of the column. Then slide table bracketand rack together down the column until thelower end of the rack rests in the lip of theholder, as shown in Figure 7.
