86.4 Mounting the head1. With the aid of a second person, carefully lift headonto column top (Figure 5).The head assembly is heavy. Toavoid injury and/or damage to equipment, lift headonto column only with additional assistance.2. Rotate head assembly until sides of belt cover(A 1 ) are parallel with sides of base (D, Figure 3).3. Tighten two set screws (A 2 , Figure 5) with a 5mmwrench until they are snug.6.5 Installing handlesRefer to Figures 5 and 6:Install three handles (F) into downfeed-hub (A 3 ) asshown. Tighten using provided wrench on the flat ofthe handles.Install remaining handle (F, Figure 6) on speed adjusthub on opposite side of head.6.6 Installing chuck and arbor1. Adjust position of table to approximately seveninches below spindle assembly (A 4 , Figure 5) andlock in place.Refer to Figure 6:2. Thoroughly clean spindle (A 4 ), arbor (G), andchuck (O).Important: These three pieces must be free ofany rust protection, or lubricant. If they are notclean and dry, the arbor and chuck will fail to seatin the spindle.3. Place arbor (G) into chuck (O).4. Open chuck all the way to completely retract thechuck jaws.5. Place arbor and chuck assembly into spindle (A 4 ).6. Rotate arbor and chuck assembly until tang (G1 )on arbor engages the slot at end of spindle.7. Place a scrap board against bottom of chuck, andfirmly tap the board two or three times with amallet or hammer, to seat the arbor.6.7 Mounting to benchBefore operating, the assembled drill press must besecurely mounted to a bench or stand, usingappropriate fasteners (not provided) through the twoholes in the base.Figure 5Figure 6
