15OperationsPipe Sizing Chart for Natural GasThe following chart is based on gas pressure in therange 0-0.5 psi, specific gravity of 0.6 and pressureloss of 0.5" W.C. Numbers are for straight schedule 40pipe; fittings further reduce capacity. For example, in 1"size, an elbow is equivalent to about 2.6 feet of pipeand a tee is equivalent to about 5.2 feet of pipe.Maximum capacity of pipe in cubic feet/hr of natural gas(Multiply values by 1000 to get nominal BTU/hr capacity.LP-Gas (Liquid petroleum gas or propane)LP-gas is gas compressed into liquid form for easytransportation and storage. It is also known as propaneor bottle gas. (Propane tanks are not supplied with thisequipment.)LP-gas is flammable, is always contained underpressure and the liquid can freeze skin. Therefore, inthe interest of safety, it is important to understand thebasic facts about LP-gas and LP-gas containers.Federal DOT (Department of Transportation) regula-tions require periodic inspections and re-qualificationsof cylinders. DO NOT USE damaged or rustedcontainers.DO NOT store LP-gas containers indoors or inenclosed areas. Do not expose LP-gas container toheat. Always store with service valve closed andplugged as required.CAUTION: Use LP-gas containers in properposition.ATTENTION : Utiliser des contenants de gaz depétrole liquéfié en position appropriée.Most LP-gas pressure washer heaters are designed tooperate on LP-gas vapor only. Therefore, all LP-gascontainers designed for vapor service must be trans-ported, installed and used in the proper position. Do nottransport, install or use a vertical cylinder in a horizontalor upside down position. Proper care must be taken toposition a horizontal container in the correct position forvapor withdrawal. Liquid LP-gas could enter the systemdesigned for vapor only, possibly creating a hazardouscondition.Always use a POL plug installed on a POL valve or adust cap on an ACME/Type 1 valve when transportingor storing disconnected containers (full or empty).Check for leaks after connecting. Apply approved leakdetector solution to connection, turn off all burners andpilots and open service valve. Leaks will be detected bythe growth of bubbles. If bubbles grow, tighten or repairthe connection as needed. Repeat leak test untilproblem is corrected.Check all tank and the line connections periodically tobe sure they are tight. When testing for leaks, useapproved leak detector solution — not matches.Improved Regulation: The second stage regulatorreceives a relatively uniform pressure from the firststage regulator. This helps the second stage regulatorto maintain appliance pressure at a nearly constant 11"W.C.Filling the LP-Gas ContainerOnly qualified persons should fill your LP-gascontainers.CAUTION: Overfilling is hazardous!ATTENTION : Le remplissage excessif estdangereux.DO NOT allow your LP-gas container to be overfilled.Stop filling when liquid appears at the fixed level gauge.Bleed off excess propane in a safe area. Most LP-gascontainers are equipped with a fixed liquid level gaugewhich contacts the liquid level at 80% of containercapacity, allowing 20% for expansion. LP-gascontainers not equipped with a fixed liquid level gaugecan only be filled by weight. In cold climates, in order to keep vaporization of LP-gasat the highest level, keep the fuel levels above 50%.Propane Tank DisposalPropane tanks present a real danger in the wastestream, so it is essential to properly dispose of oldtanks so they do not injure you or sanitation workers. The best way to dispose of unused propane tanks is bycalling a propane company to pick it up. Propane tanksare not picked up by garbage collectors, and improperdisposal is illegal in some areas. If a propane tank isunfit for service, one should contact a propanecompany.Length ofPipe (ft.)Iron Pipe Size3/4" 1" 1 -1/4" 1- 1/2" 2"10 360 680 1400 2100 395020 250 465 950 1460 275030 200 375 770 1180 220040 170 320 660 990 190050 151 285 580 900 168060 138 260 530 810 152070 125 240 490 750 140080 118 220 460 690 130090 110 205 430 650 1220100 103 195 400 620 1150150 84 160 325 500 950200 72 135 280 430 800Karcher Liberty HDS Stationary Dealer’s Manual 9.801-508.0 - AY PreviousNext |
