38 ENAmbience effectsDTS-ESThe DTS-ES (Digital Theater System-Extended Surround) represents6.1-channel Discrete Surround format, expanding upon 5.1 surround.DTS-ES format is a 6.1 channel sound system for movie theaters thatincludes an additional surround center channel matrixed within sur-round left and surround right. It’s compatible on predecessor DTS 5.1system. The extra channel allows more accurate placement andsteering of sound accross the rear soundstage.The DTS-ES receiverwill be required, to experience a discrete 6.1-channel mix.The DTS-ES decoders used in home cinema systems have decodingoptions for utilizing the extra channel, in addition to processingexisting 5.1 channel surround sound :DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 and DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 add the surround backchannel audio to the DTS 5.1-channel format to improve the acousticpositioning and makes acoustic image movement more natural withthe 6.1-channel reproduction.CRBLBL RLS RSSWDTS 96/24The DTS 96/24 enables 5.1-channel playback with broad bandwidthover 40 kHz and high resolution without affecting the picture qualityof DVD video. This channel delivers separate non-directional bass signals to the subwoofer for more dynamic deep basssound effects.When there is a LFE channel input in the DOLBY DIGITAL or DTSformat, the "LFE" indicator lights on the display of the receiver.NEO:6NEO:6 is a new technology which decodes 2-channel signals into6-channel signals using high-accuracy digital matrix technology.For the best results, DTS-ES should be used with movie soundtracks recorded with DTS-ES format which contain a digital flagthat will automatically activate this feature. The DTS can be used with DVDand LaserDisc software carrying the mark. Although the numberof channels is 5.1 and identical to Dolby Digital, the DTS formatfeatures lower audio compression rate in digital recording, whichenables audio with more profoundness and higher S/N.
