2 Introduction to Programming32 Keysight Models 6811C, 6812C, and 6813C Programming GuideRS-232 Capabilities of the AC SourceThe ac source provides an RS-232 programming interface, which is activated bycommands located under the front panel Address key. All SCPI commands areavailable through RS-232 programming. The EIA RS-232 Standard defines the interconnections between Data TerminalEquipment (DTE) and Data Communications Equipment (DCE). The ac source isdesigned to be a DTE. It can be connected to another DTE such as a PC COM portthrough a null modem cable.RS-232 data formatThe RS-232 data is an 11-bit word with one start bit and two stop bits. Thenumber of start and stop bits is not programmable. The following parity optionsare selectable using the front panel Address key:Parity options are stored in non-volatile memory.Baud rateThe front panel Address key lets you select one of the following baud rates, whichis stored in non-volatile memory:1200, 2400, 4800, or 9600.NOTE The RS-232 settings in your program must match the settings specified in thefront panel Address menu. Press the front panel Address key if you need tochange the settings.EVEN Seven data bits with even parityODD Seven data bits with odd parityNONE Eight data bits without parityNOTE The ac source must have the same baud rate and parity as the controller.
