136 Getting Started GuideTest Set Operating SystemTransporting a License Between Test SetsTransporting a License Between Test SetsTo move a transportable license from one test set to another, Keysightrecommends that both test sets be at the same instrument software release.This ensures that the user experience is identical between instruments.As a minimum, the instrument software release in the test set that will receivethe transportable license (the "target instrument") must at least be able tosupport the desired application.The E6640A test sets support several ways of transporting licenses. Theprocedure below will focus on the most common procedure, where neither ofthe test sets has access to an internet connection.You will need the following:— USB flash drive— USB keyboard— USB mouseThe test set from which the transportable license will be removed is here calledthe "source instrument". The test set which will receive the transportablelicense is here called the "target instrument".Procedure for Transporting a License, Neither Test Set Connected tothe InternetThe test set from which the transportable license will be removed is here calledthe "source instrument". The test set which will receive the transportablelicense is here called the "target instrument".This procedure requires a PC with an internet connection.Step Action Notes1 Connect the USB devicesto the source instrument— Connect the USB flash drive, USBkeyboard, and USB mouse to theUSB ports on the sourceinstrument.It will be necessary to use one or more ofthe front panel ports to connect the USBdevices.2 Verify software version ineach test set— On the Virtual Front Panel foreach test set, press System >Show > System and make note ofthe Instrument S/W Revision oneach.Ideally, the revisions will be the same. But atleast, both versions should be able tosupport the application whose license isbeing transported.3 Obtain the Host ID fromthe Target Instrument— On the target instrument, pressSystem > Show > System andmake note of the host ID.This information will be needed to issue thelicense for the target instrument. The HostID is the model number, followed by acomma, followed by the serial number.
