Getting Started Guide 147Test Set Operating SystemSystem MaintenanceSystem MaintenanceBackupIt is recommended that you have a regular backup strategy. Your ITdepartment may already have a backup strategy in place which is suitable forthe test set and its data. Using the Keysight Recovery system in conjunctionwith a regular backup strategy should allow full recovery of the test set data. The Windows operating system has a Backup utility that you can use to archivefiles and folders in case of a hard disk drive failure. See the Microsoft WindowsHelp and Support Center for more information on this utility. You can also usethird party backup utilities. However, you must ensure that this third partysoftware is compatible with the test set's system software. See “CustomerInstallation of Software” on page 129 for more information. When performing backups, we recommend that you backup the data to anexternal storage device connected to the network or one of the test set's USBconnectors. Also, you should perform backups at times when the test set is notbeing used for normal operations as it may impact the test set's overallperformance.System restoreWindows contains the capability to restore the system to a previous point intime. System Restore is enabled with default settings as provided by Microsoft. However, System Restore is not 100% successful. Therefore, it is not therecommended method to backup the test set. System Restore has not beentested to verify successful restoring.Disk defragmentingOver time the hard disk on the test set becomes fragmented. Windows has aDisk Defragmenter utility that you can use to defragment the hard disk. Seethe Microsoft Windows Help and Support Center for more information on thisutility.Running Disk Defragmenter should be performed when the measurementapplication is not running. Measurement throughput is significantly impactedwhile disk defragmentation is in process.
