Keysight M8000 Series of BER Test Solutions User Guide 479Working with Measurements 8Output Timing MeasurementOverviewThe Output Timing measurement is used to measure the timing and jitterbehavior for a device under test (DUT). It uses a bit error rate (BER)measurement to evaluate the shape of the eye for the output signal of theDUT. It also analyzes the jitter, separates the random jitter anddeterministic jitter components, and estimates the total jitter.A direct result is the determination of the optimum sampling point delayfor receiving data from the DUT with maximum confidence.DUT Output Timing/Jitter includes the Fast Total Jitter measurementthat can be used to measure the total jitter for devices which generate avery low error density in a reasonable time span.Output Timing CharacteristicsThe sampling point is swept automatically within a 1.5 clock period togenerate a "bathtub" curve. The resulting graph is centered around theoptimum sampling point of the port.In addition, the results are available in a tabular view. If a clock signal isdefined, the software measures the data to clock alignment and displaysthe absolute delay.Jitter CharacteristicsThe DUT Output Timing/Jitter measurement calculates the differentcomponents making up the jitter:• Random Jitter (RJ)• Deterministic Jitter (DJ)Example ResultsThe following illustration shows the resulting graph of a typical DUTOutput Timing measurement:
