Using FunctionsProcessing Traces43Processing TracesTrace overlap and trace operation are used in the testerfor post trace processing. Very useful in comparingmeasurements to identify differences and faults.Trace OperationTrace operation mathematically adds or subtracts thecurrent measured trace to a previously saved trace. Thiswill provide information that may indicate when a cableor antenna system is degrading in performance andwould require maintenance.iExample: A saved a trace (data) has been entered intothe local memory of the tester. The trace was measuredunder return loss mode in GSM full band (880 MHz to960 MHz), with 521 data points.Perform the following steps for a trace operation:1 Press [MEAS/VIEW] > {Trace Operation} to access thecheck box for selecting a math operation mode:• Trace – MemoryCurrent active trace mathematically subtracts thetrace from local memory of the tester.• Trace + MemoryCurrent active trace mathematically adds the tracefrom local memory of the tester.2 Rotate the knob to select a mode and press [ENTER].3 The tester brings up a list of existing trace data in thelocal memory the tester.4 Rotate the knob to select a trace that has the samemeasurement mode, resolution and frequency range, and press [ENTER].The tester displays the mathematically calculated traceon its screen.NO TE The previously saved trace must have the same setup, with con-sistent measurement parameters as the current trace. For exam-ple, the same mode, resolution, and frequency/distance range.
