2 Making Measurements52 U1461A/U1453A User’s GuideInsulation Resistance TestSet up your tester as shown in Figure 2-1. Set the rotary switch to a test voltagevalue that does not exceed the maximum voltage limitation of the circuit undertest. Ensure that the device-under-test (DUT) is de-energized before performingany resistance measurement.Table 2-1 Rotary switch position for insulation resistance testsLegend Defaul t function Function when is pressedRotary switchposition Primary d isplay Secondary d isplay Primary d isplay Secondary d isplay50 V insulationresistance testAC+DC VorDC V (during test)1 Timed (T) test2 DielectricAbsorption Ratio(DAR) test3 PolarizationIndex (PI) testAC+DC VorDC V (during test)100 V insulationresistance test250 V insulationresistance test500 V insulationresistance test1000 V insulationresistance testCAUTION – DO NOT perform insulation resistance test in distribution systems withvoltages higher than 600 V.– The tester automatically detects if the circuit is energized. If the externalvoltage is detected to be greater than 30 V (or 50 V or 75 V; depending onselected option in Setup), the test is inhibited. The symbol is shown onthe display when either the external voltage or the test voltage is greaterthan 30 V. Disconnect the tester and remove the power of the circuitbefore proceeding.
