17 ENGLISHSwitch actionWARNING: Before installing the battery car-tridge on the tool, always check to see that theswitch trigger actuates properly and returns tothe "OFF" position when released. Operating a toolwith a switch that does not actuate properly can leadto loss of control and serious personal injury.WARNING: Do not use a lock with a shank orcable any smaller than 6.35 mm (1/4") in diameter.A smaller shank or cable may not properly lock thetool in the off position and unintentional operationmay occur resulting in serious personal injury.WARNING: NEVER use tool without a fullyoperative switch trigger. Any tool with an inoper-ative switch is HIGHLY DANGEROUS and must berepaired before further usage or serious personalinjury may occur.WARNING: For your safety, this tool is equippedwith a lock-off button which prevents the tool fromunintended starting. NEVER use the tool if it runswhen you simply pull the switch trigger withoutpressing the lock-off button. A switch in need ofrepair may result in unintentional operation and seri-ous personal injury. Return tool to a Makita servicecenter for proper repairs BEFORE further usage.WARNING: NEVER defeat the lock-off buttonby taping down or some other means. A switch witha negated lock-off button may result in unintentionaloperation and serious personal injury.NOTICE: Do not pull the switch trigger hardwithout pressing in the lock-off button. This cancause switch breakage.For tools with blade guard release leverTo prevent the switch trigger from being accidentallypulled, a lock-off button is provided. To start the tool,push the blade guard release lever up, press in thelock-off button and then pull the switch trigger. Releasethe switch trigger to stop.The lock-off button can be pressed from either right orleft.A hole is provided in the switch trigger for insertion of apadlock to lock the tool off.► Fig.26: 1. Hole for padlockFor tools without blade guard release leverTo prevent the switch trigger from being accidentallypulled, a lock-off button is provided. To start the tool,press in the lock-off button and pull the switch trigger.Release the switch trigger to stop.The lock-off button can be pressed from either right orleft.A hole is provided in the switch trigger for insertion of apadlock to lock the tool off.► Fig.27: 1. Failure to switch off andremove the battery cartridge may result in seriouspersonal injury.Hex wrench storageThe hex wrench is stored as shown in the figure. Whenthe hex wrench is needed it can be pulled out of thewrench holder.After using the hex wrench it can be stored by returningit to the wrench holder.► Fig.28: 1. Wrench holder 2. Hex wrenchInstalling or removing saw bladeWARNING: Always be sure that the tool isswitched off and the battery cartridge is removedbefore installing or removing the blade. Accidentalstart up of the tool may result in serious personal injury.CAUTION: Use only the Makita hex wrenchprovided to install or remove the blade. Failure to doso may result in overtightening or insufficient tighteningof the hex socket bolt. This could cause an injury.To remove the blade, perform the following steps:1. Lock the handle in the raised position by pushingin the stopper pin.► Fig.29: 1. Stopper pin2. Use the hex wrench to loosen the hex socket boltholding the center cover by turning it counterclockwise.Then, raise the blade guard and center cover.► Fig.30: 1. Center cover 2. Hex socket bolt 3. Press the shaft lock to lock the spindle and usethe hex wrench to loosen the hex socket bolt clockwise.Then remove the hex socket bolt of the spindle, outerflange and blade.► Fig.31: 1. Shaft lock 2. Hex socket bolt 3. Outerflange4. If the inner flange is removed, install it on the spin-dle with its blade mounting part facing the blade. If theflange is installed incorrectly the flange will rub againstthe machine.► Fig.32: 1. Outer flange 2. Saw blade 3. Inner flange4. Hex socket bolt (left-handed) 5. Spindle6. Blade mounting partTo install the blade, perform the following steps:1. Mount the blade carefully onto the inner flange.Make sure that the direction of the arrow on the bladematches the direction of the arrow on the blade case.► Fig.33: 1. Saw blade 2. Arrow2. Install the outer flange and hex socket bolt, andthen use the hex wrench to tighten the hex socket bolt(left-handed) of the spindle securely counterclockwisewhile pressing the shaft lock.
