16 ENGLISHIn the interest of your personal safety, always maintainthe blade guard in good condition. Any irregular opera-tion of the blade guard should be corrected immediately.Check to assure spring loaded return action of guard.NEVER USE THE TOOL IF THE BLADE GUARD ORSPRING ARE DAMAGED, FAULTY OR REMOVED.DOING SO IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND CANCAUSE SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY.If the see-through blade guard becomes dirty, or saw-dust adheres to it in such a way that the blade is no lon-ger easily visible, unplug the saw and clean the guardcarefully with a damp cloth. Do not use solvents or anypetroleum-based cleaners on the plastic guard.If the blade guard is especially dirty and vision throughthe guard is impaired, use the supplied hex wrench toloosen the hex socket bolt holding the center cover.Loosen the hex socket bolt by turning it counterclock-wise and raise the blade guard and center cover. Withthe blade guard so positioned, cleaning can be morecompletely and efficiently accomplished. When cleaningis complete, reverse procedure above and secure bolt.Do not remove spring holding blade guard. If guardbecomes discolored through age or UV light exposure,contact a Makita service center for a new guard. DONOT DEFEAT OR REMOVE GUARD.► Fig.8: 1. Blade guardPositioning kerf board► Fig.9: 1. Straight cutThis tool is provided with the kerf boards in the turnbase to minimize tearing on the exit side of a cut. Thekerf boards are factory adjusted so that the saw bladedoes not contact the kerf boards. Before use, adjust thekerf boards as follows:First, unplug the tool. Loosen all the screws (2 each onleft and right) securing the kerf boards. Re-tighten themonly to the extent that the kerf boards can still be easilymoved by hand. Lower the handle fully and push in thestopper pin to lock the handle in the lowered position.Loosen two clamp screws which secure the slide poles.Pull the carriage toward you fully. Adjust the kerf boardsso that the kerf boards just contact the sides of theblade teeth. Tighten the front screws (do not tightenfirmly). Push the carriage toward the guide fence fullyand adjust the kerf boards so that the kerf boards justcontact the sides of blade teeth. Tighten the rear screws(do not tighten firmly).After adjusting the kerf boards, release the stopperpin and raise the handle. Then tighten all the screwssecurely.CAUTION:• Before and after changing the bevel angle,always adjust the kerf boards as describedabove.Maintaining maximum cuttingcapacity► Fig.11: 1. Guide fenceThis tool is factory adjusted to provide the maximumcutting capacity for a 190 mm saw blade.When installing a new blade, always check the lowerlimit position of the blade and if necessary, adjust it asfollows:First, unplug the tool. Push the carriage toward theguide fence fully and lower the handle completely.Use the hex wrench to turn the adjusting bolt until theperiphery of the blade extends slightly below the topsurface of the turn base at the point where the frontface of the guide fence meets the top surface of the turnbase.With the tool unplugged, rotate the blade by hand whileholding the handle all the way down to be sure thatthe blade does not contact any part of the lower base.Re-adjust slightly, if necessary.WARNING:• After installing a new blade, always be sure thatthe blade does not contact any part of the lowerbase when the handle is lowered completely.Always do this with the tool unplugged.Stopper arm► Fig.13: 1. Adjusting screw 2. Stopper armThe lower limit position of the blade can be easilyadjusted with the stopper arm. To adjust it, move thestopper arm in the direction of the arrow as shown inthe figure. Adjust the adjusting screw so that the bladestops at the desired position when lowering the handlefully.Sub-fenceCountry specificWARNING: When performing left bevel cuts,flip the sub-fence outward. Otherwise, it may con-tact the blade or a part of the tool, and may result inserious injury to the operator.► Fig.14: 1. Sub-fenceThis tool is equipped with the sub-fence. Usually posi-tion the sub-fence inside. However, when performingleft bevel cuts, flip it outward.Adjusting the miter angle► Fig.15: 1. Turn base 2. Lock lever 3. Miter scale4. Pointer 5. GripLoosen the grip by turning counterclockwise. Turn theturn base while pressing down the lock lever. When youhave moved the grip to the position where the pointerpoints to the desired angle on the miter scale, securelytighten the grip clockwise. |
