High torqueis developed and it is important that the toolshould be securely held and properly braced.Grasp the handle with one hand and the front handlewith the other hand.12► 1. Front handle 2. HandleWhen drilling a large hole with a self-feed bit, etc., theside grip (auxiliary handle) should be used as a brace tomaintain safe control of the tool. When drilling action is forward (clockwise), the toolshould be braced to prevent a counterclockwise reac-tion if the bit should bind.123► 1. Reaction 2. Forward 3. Side gripWhen reversing, brace the tool to prevent a clockwisereaction. If the drill bit must be removed from a partiallydrilled hole, be sure the tool is properly braced beforereversing.12► 1. Reaction 2. ReverseDrilling operationDrilling in woodWhen drilling in wood, the best results are obtainedwith wood drills equipped with a guide screw. The guidescrew makes drilling easier by pulling the drill bit intothe workpiece.Drilling in metalTo prevent the drill bit from slipping when starting ahole, make an indentation with a center-punch andhammer at the point to be drilled. Place the point of thedrill bit in the indentation and start drilling.Use a cutting lubricant when drilling metals. The excep-tions are iron and brass which should be drilled dry.CAUTION: Pressing excessively on the toolwill not speed up the drilling. In fact, this excessivepressure will only serve to damage the tip of your drillbit, decrease the tool performance and shorten theservice life of the tool.CAUTION: Hold the tool firmly and exert carewhen the drill bit begins to break through theworkpiece. There is a tremendous force exerted onthe tool/drill bit at the time of hole break through.CAUTION: A stuck drill bit can be removedsimply by setting the reversing switch to reverserotation in order to back out. However, the toolmay back out abruptly if you do not hold it firmly.CAUTION: Always secure workpieces in avise or similar hold-down device.CAUTION: Avoid drilling in material that yoususpect contains hidden nails or other things thatmay cause the drill bit to bind or break.CAUTION: If the tool is operated continuouslyuntil the battery cartridge has discharged, allowthe tool to rest for 15 minutes before proceedingwith a fresh battery.Lanyard (tether strap) connectionSafety warnings specific for use at heightRead all safety warnings and instructions. Failureto follow the warnings and instructions may result inserious injury.1. Always keep the tool tethered when working"at height". Maximum lanyard length is 2 m(6.5 ft).2. Use only with lanyards appropriate for this tooltype and rated for at least 7.0 kg (15.4 lbs).3. Do not anchor the tool lanyard to anything onyour body or on movable components. Anchorthe tool lanyard to a rigid structure that canwithstand the forces of a dropped tool.4. Make sure the lanyard is properly secured ateach end prior to use.5. Inspect the tool and lanyard before each usefor damage and proper function (includingfabric and stitching). Do not use if damaged ornot functioning properly.
