CRU Replacement and Server Upgrades 4-5Preparing Your System for UpgradeAlways observe the following guidelines when replacing or installing devices inyour system.! Your fault-tolerant server allows you to remove, install, and replacedevices while the server is in continuous operation. However, when it isnecessary to work on the server with its power off, you must use theWindows 2000 shut down procedures, power off the server, anddisconnect all the power cords and interface cables.! To remove a CPU module or PCI module while the system is in anoperational state the module must be disabled (placed into off-line status)by using the server utility of the ESMPRO/ServerAgent or theESMPRO/ServerManager from the management PC on the network.Then after a new module is installed it must be reenabled by using theserver utility of the ESMPRO/ServerAgent or theESMPRO/ServerManager.Note: The system default automatically boots a module,once installed.! Do not remove a CRU when its amber status LED indicator is on. Thisindicates that the CRU is operating in simplex mode (i.e., its duplexpartner is not functional) and removing it will cause the system to fail.! Provide the same hardware configuration for both group 1 and group 2.! Ensure that the installed devices have the same specifications,performance, and features.Have the following tools available:! Phillips screwdriver (#2 bit)! flat-head screwdriver! small needle nose pliers! pen or pencil! utility knife! ESD workstation or antistatic wrist strap (recommended.)
