4-2 Upgrading Your SystemGeneral Information! WARNINGThe DC push-button on/off switch on the front panel doesnot turn off the system AC power. Also, +5vdc is present onthe system board whenever the AC power cord is connectedbetween the system and an AC outlet. Before doing theprocedures in this manual, make sure that your system ispowered off and unplug the AC power cord from the back ofthe chassis. Failure to disconnect power before openingyour system can result in personal injury and equipmentdamage.! CAUTIONThe server management logic on your system boardmonitors and logs system voltage changes. When poweringdown your system you may experience a 1–5 second delayfrom the time you press the push-button power on/off switchon the front panel and your system powering down. This isnormal system operation and is required by the servermanagement logic.! CAUTIONOperating your system with the side panels removed candamage your system components. For proper cooling andairflow, always replace the side panels before powering onyour system.Note: Your system error log will be lost, if your systemac power source is off or disconnected.Contact your sales representative or dealer for a list of approved optionalperipheral devices.Static PrecautionsAn electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage disk drives, option boards, andother components. You can provide some ESD protection by wearing anantistatic wrist strap attached to chassis ground when handling systemcomponents.Electronic devices can be easily damaged by static electricity. To preventdamage, keep them in their protective packaging when they are not installed inyour system.
