1-2 System OverviewOverviewThis server is well suited for Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) and Enterprise classnetwork server environments and is a highly reliable, high-powered, fault-tolerant,high-capacity multiprocessing system based on the Intel Pentium IIIÆ processor family.It is a fully redundant system with on-line serviceability and hot plug replacement of allmajor subsystems and a solid performer offering the latest technology. The serversystem is conveniently housed and available as a tower-based system, includinghousing for the tape drive module (see Figure 1-1) or as a rack-mount system, withouthousing for the tape drive module (see Figure 1-2) in a relatively small form factor of8U (fits into a standard EIA 19-inch rack assembly.)The combination of mirrored computing performance, memory capacity, and integratedI/O provides a high performance environment for many applications including networkservers. The server system is designed for use in applications where fault-tolerant,advanced technology, high performance, and high levels of reliability and compatibilityare expected.Figure 1-1.
