5-10 Problem SolvingNo Characters Appear on ScreenCheck the following:! Is the keyboard working? Check to see if the Num Lock light is functioning.! Is the video display monitor plugged in and turned on? Many modern video monitorsshut down when inactive and may require a moment to warm up when activated.! Are the brightness and contrast controls on the video monitor properly adjusted?! Are the video monitor switch settings correct?! Is the video monitor signal cable properly installed?! Is the video controller installed?If you are using an add-in video controller board, do the following:1. Verify that the video controller board is fully seated in its connector in the I/Omodule (and verify that the video monitor is plugged in to the ACTIVE videocontroller).2. Reboot the system for changes to take effect.3. If there are still no characters on the screen after rebooting the system and POSTemits a beep code, write down the beep code you hear. This information is usefulfor your service representative. See ìPost Error Codes and Messagesî later in thischapter.4. POST emits one long beep and two short beeps pattern to indicate a possibleproblem with the video display controller. If you do not receive a beep code andcharacters do not appear, the video display monitor or video controller may havefailed. You can verify this by trying the monitor on another system or trying adifferent monitor on this system.
