2-42 System Configuration operating system (OS) restore with disk rebuild (deletes all data on thedisk) operating system (OS) restore only, for systems running the Windows 95or Windows 98 operating system (preserves data on the disk) selective application and/or documentation restore.The OS Restore programs and the Selective Application Restore program useeasy-to-understand dialog boxes and screen messages for the restore process.Note: The system also comes with the NEC Driver CD.The CD contains the drivers installed on the system and afull set of optional drivers compatible with hardware optionsoffered by NEC CSD. See “NEC Driver CD” for informationabout installing or restoring drivers.Choosing a Restore ProgramIt’s important to choose the appropriate restore program. In some uses, theprogram can delete all the data, as well as the operating system and/orapplications on the hard drive. Check the following list to verify that theprogram being selected fits the restore conditions. Repartition and/or reformat the hard drive and restore the operatingsystem (“Auto” or “Custom”).If a catastrophic system failure occurs, use the OS restore to repartitionand reformat the hard drive and restore the operating system. Using theprogram is the first phase of a full system restore. After restoring the OS,continue with a Selective Application Restore.See “Rebuilding the Hard Drive and Restoring the Operation System,”and under it, either “Auto Rebuild and Restore” or “Custom Rebuild andRestore.” Restore only the operating system (“Fix OS”).If rebuilding the hard drive is not required, use the OS Restore to reinstallonly the operating system (for systems running the Windows 95 orWindows 98 operating system). It is not necessary to perform a selectiveapplication restore after reinstalling the operating system.See “Restoring the Operating System.” Restore some or all of the applications and online documentation thatcame on the NEC Select Install CD.The Selective Application Restore takes place after the Windows OS hasbooted. It allows choosing the application software to reinstall. Use thisprogram to restore selected applications from the CD after rebuilding thehard drive, or at any time to reinstall a software package that came withthe computer.
