Section 2Setup and OperationThis section provides information on hardware setup and operation for the PowerMate Veseries systems. Setup includes unpacking, setting up, and powering on the system. It alsoincludes information for configuring the system with the setup program, using the NECbulletin board service, and running the BIOS update utility. Setting system board jumpers isdescribed in Appendix B, System Board Jumpers.UNPACKING AND REPACKINGFind an area away from devices that generate magnetic fields (electric motors, transformers,etc.). Place the carton on a sturdy surface, and carefully unpack the system. The cartoncontents for non-multimedia configurations include the system unit, keyboard, mouse,power cord, and user documentation. The carton contents for multimedia configurationsinclude the system unit with a CD-ROM player, keyboard, mouse, speakers, microphone,power cord, and user documentation.Repack the system using the original shipping carton and packing material. Part numbers forreplacement shipping cartons and packing material are included in Section 5, “IllustratedParts Breakdown.”SETUPSet up the system by making the following connections.1. Set the voltage selector switch to 115V (U.S. and Canada) or 230V (Asia andAustralia) and plug the power cord into the system power socket (see Figure 2-1).
