PaperThis chapter describes the types and characteristics of thepaper you can use in your printer.Typesq Plain paperBest results are obtained using good quality plain officepaper with a weight between 15.5 and 24 lbs. Using 21 lbspaper, you can load up to 40 single sheets in the ASF. Ifyou use thicker paper (over 24 lbs), the ASF capacity isreduced to 20 sheets.q Special printing mediaWhen you require top professional printing quality, e.g. forpresentation documents in color and for all types ofillustrations (photograph reproductions, drawings andgraphics), you should always use media specificallyindicated for ink jet printers.Best results are obtained with 24 to 28 lbs paper. Youshould use recommended media types (see Appendix A -Supplies) and ask your dealer if you require furtherinformation.The printer acccepts the following types of special media:• Coated paperYou can insert up to 10 sheets at a time in theASF. However, in marginal environmentalconditions, you may find it necessary to insertthem one at a time.• Glossy paperThis type of paper has a sophisticated glossy coating, andis similar to that used used in the photographic industry.You must insert the sheets one at a time with a singlesheet of plain paper as a backing.• TransparenciesAlways use those specifically indicated for ink jetprinters; they are designed to absorb the ink correctly.You must insert the transparencies one at a time with asingle sheet of plain paper as a backing.When inserting the sheets for printing, make sure thatthe printing surface is facing the correct way (see theinstructions on the paper packaging or container).The drying time for the ink on the special printing mediais somewhat longer than for plain paper. Always removethe printed page as soon as it exits from the printer andset it aside to dry thorougly before handling it.
