Access Point InstallationChapter 3INSTALLATION 71Connecting to Access PointsAfter WL Controller is mounted and installed, connect the WL Access Points to anetwork. When UNIVERGE WL System operates with Layer 2 mode, WL Access Pointwill search for a WL Controller in the network, and send connection demand. Inthis case, you have to put APs in the same subnet (segment) with the WLController. When UNIVERGE WL System operates with Layer 3 mode, WL Access Pointand WL Controller communicate with each other on network level (IP address). Therefore, Access Point requires DHCP Server to acquire an IP address beforecommunicating with WL Controller. After Access Points acquire IP addresses, they send connection request to the WL Controller.WL Controller automatically configure the APs and starts to communicate withthem. Then, clients such as mobile users will be able to communicate with eachother through WL System.DHCP Server SettingUNIVERGE WL System requires DHCP Server if you will operate it with Layer3 mode. Because WL Access Points acquire IP addresses from DHCP Server, it isrequired to install the DHCP Server in the same subnet with the APs.DHCP Server function of WL Controller can distribute IP addresses to WLAccess Points. For data assignment on DHCP Server, network information (IP Address, subnetmask, and default gateway) for WL APs is required. In addition, the system IPaddress of WL Controller must be set to DHCP Option 43 by ASCII characters.
