Starting Certificate Management System314 Netscape Certificate Management System Installation and Setup Guide • October 2001Here’s how you can do it:1. Go to this directory: /cert-/config2. Locate the pwcache.p12 file.3. Either rename or delete the file.4. Start the server from the command line; see “Starting From the CommandLine” on page 318.You are prompted for all the required passwords.Later, if you want to revert back to starting the server using the single sign-onpassword:1. Create a password cache and then create entries for all the required passwords. For instructions on creating a new password cache and adding new entries tothe password cache, see Chapter 2, “Password Cache Utility” of CMSCommand-Line Tools Guide.2. Copy the file to the /cert-/config directory.3. Start the server from the command line; see “Starting From the CommandLine” on page 318.You are prompted for the single sign-on password.Configuring the Server to Read the Single Sign-on Password From aFileEvery time you start Certificate Management System, you are required to entereither the single sign-on password or all the passwords required by the server tostartup (see “Required Start-up Information” on page 312 and “Configuring theServer to Start Without the Single Sign-On Password” on page 313). By default, there is no way to start Certificate Management System non-interactively; thestartcert script requires you to enter a password. If it is inconvenient for you to start the server this way, you can store the singlesign-on password in a file and edit the startcert script to use this file to startwithout any prompts. Configuring the server this way eliminates the need for youto enter the single sign-on password every time you start the server—it can beuseful on UNIX machines to have the server automatically started if the machinereboots for any reason, and it can be useful on Windows NT to be able to start theserver without having to be at the system console. Note that there is no way tomake the edited startcert script a service that is automatically started by WindowsNT at startup, so if the machine reboots due to a power failure, CertificateManagement System will not start automatically.
