58Beyond Point-and-Shoot—Focus ModeDelaying Shutter Release: Self-Timer ModeThe self-timer can be used for photographs in which you wish to appearyourself or to prevent photographs from being blurred by camera movementthat occurs when the shutter-release button is pressed. To use the self-timer:1 Position the cameraMount the camera on a tripod (recommended) or rest it on a flat, stablesurface.2 Select a self-timer modePress the button until the self-timer icon ( ) is displayed. Themacro close-up icon ( ) will alsobe displayed to indicate that thecamera can focus at distances of2 cm (0.8˝) or more.3 Compose the photographAdjust camera settings and frame the picture.4 Start the timerPress the shutter-release button allthe way down to activate thetimer. Press once for a ten-seconddelay, twice for a three-second de-lay. To stop the timer, press theshutter-release button a third time.The self-timer lamp next to the lens will start to blink when the shutter-release button is pressed, and continue to blink until one second beforethe photo is taken. The self-timer lamp will stay lit during the final secondto warn that the shutter is about to be released.
