32Basic Photography and Playback: A (Auto) ModeTaking Pictures with the Self-timerThe camera is equipped with a ten-second and two-second timer for self-portraits.This feature is useful for reducing the effects of camera shake that occurs whenpressing the shutter-release button. When using the self-timer, use of a tripod isrecommended. Set Vibration reduction (A 129) to Off in the setup menu(A 120) when using a tripod to stabilize the camera during shooting.1 Press the rotary multi selector n (self-timer).The self-timer menu is displayed.2 Use the rotary multi selector to choose 10s or2s and press the k button.10s (ten seconds): Use on important occasions, such asweddings.2s (two seconds): Use to prevent camera shake.The mode selected for self-timer is displayed.If a setting is not applied by pressing the k button within a few seconds, the selectionwill be canceled.3 Frame the picture and press theshutter-release button halfway.Focus and exposure will be set.4 Press the shutter-release button therest of the way down.The self-timer starts, and the number ofseconds remaining before the shutter isreleased is displayed in the monitor. The self-timer lamp blinks while the timer is countingdown.
