133Caring for the CameraTechnical NotesC The Battery• Check the battery level when taking the camera out, and charge the battery if necessary. Do notcontinue charging once the battery is fully charged, as this will result in reduced batteryperformance. If possible, carry a fully-charged spare battery when taking pictures on importantoccasions.• Do not use the battery at ambient temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F) or above 40 °C (104 °F). Failureto observe this precaution could damage the battery or impair its performance.• Charge indoors at an ambient temperature between 5 and 35 °C (41 to 95 °F). When the batterytemperature is between 0 and 10 °C (32 to 50 °F) or 45 to 60 °C (113 to 140 °F), the chargeablecapacity may decrease. The battery will not charge if its temperature is below 0 °C (32 °F) or above60 °C (140 °F).• If an exhausted battery is used at a low temperature, the camera may not turn on. Be sure that thebattery is fully charged and spare batteries are prepared before heading outside to take pictures incold weather. Keep spare batteries in a warm place and exchange as necessary. Once warmed, acold battery that could not be used temporarily due to lowered performance may recover some ofits charge.• Should the battery terminals become dirty, the camera may not turn on due to poor contact. Wipethe terminals off with a clean, dry cloth before use.• If the battery will not be used for some time, insert it in the camera and run it flat before removingit for storage. Attach the included terminal cover to the battery and store it in a cool location withan ambient temperature of 15 to 25 °C (59 to 77 °F). Do not store the battery in hot or extremelycold locations.• While the battery is in storage, charge it at least once every six months and then use the camera torun it flat again before storing it in a cool location.• Always remove the battery from the camera or battery charger when it is not being used. Leftinstalled, minute amounts of current flow even when unused, and the battery may becomeexcessively drained and no longer function.• A marked drop in the time a fully-charged battery retains its charge, when used at roomtemperature, indicates that the battery needs to be replaced. Purchase a new battery.• Replace the battery when it no longer holds a charge. Used batteries are a valuable resource. Pleaserecycle used batteries in accordance with local regulations.
