149A Flash Control ModeThe camera supports the following i-TTL flash control modes:• i-TTL balanced fill-flash for digital SLR: Flash emits series of nearly invisiblepreflashes (monitor preflashes) immediately before main flash.Preflashes reflected from objects in all areas of frame are picked up by2016-pixel RGB sensor and are analyzed in combination with rangeinformation from matrix metering system to adjust flash output fornatural balance between main subject and ambient backgroundlighting. If type G, E, or D lens is used, distance information isincluded when calculating flash output. Precision of calculation canbe increased for non-CPU lenses by providing lens data (focal lengthand maximum aperture; see page 224). Not available when spotmetering is used.• Standard i-TTL fill-flash for digital SLR: Flash output adjusted to bringlighting in frame to standard level; brightness of background is nottaken into account. Recommended for shots in which main subject isemphasized at expense of background details, or when exposurecompensation is used. Standard i-TTL fill-flash for digital SLR isactivated automatically when spot metering is selected.A MeteringSelect matrix or center-weighted metering to activate i-TTL balancedfill-flash for digital SLR.
